3 IPL Seasons with Most Hundreds

Over the years, the power game on display in the Indian Premier League (IPL) has evolved. For instance, six players scored a hundred in the inaugural season. However, the latest edition in 2023 saw as many as 12 centuries. It is the highest ever in a single edition!

Scoring a hundred in a T20 match is a fantastic feat. IPL, the best T20 league in the world, has witnessed some fierce knocks by batters. Brendon McCullum scored an unbeaten 158 in the first-ever IPL match, while Virat Kohli and Jos Buttler have scored four centuries in an IPL season.

Here’s a list of IPL seasons which saw the most number of hundreds: 

IPL 2023 (12 Hundreds):

In the 2023 edition, as many as 12 centuries were scored. It was the biggest tally ever recorded in IPL history. Among these 12, three centuries were by Gujarat Titans’ Shubman Gill, who won the Orange Cap the same season.

Virat Kohli struck two centuries after a disappointing show in the 2022 edition. Punjab Kings’ Prabhsimran Singh, Suryakumar Yadav, Cameron Green, Harry Brook, Heinrich Klaasen, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Venkatesh Iyer scored a hundred each.

IPL 2022

Cricket fans witnessed eight hundreds in the IPL 2022 season. It was a dream season for Jos Buttler, who became the Orange Cap holder with a run tally of 863 runs. He scored four of the eight centuries registered that year.

Lucknow Super Giants’ skipper KL Rahul scored two centuries, both coming against Mumbai Indians. His teammate Quinton de Kock smashed one century against the Kolkata Knight Riders. Meanwhile, RCB’s Rajat Patidar, too, scored a solid century, which came against Lucknow Supergiants in the IPL Eliminator.

IPL 2016:

The 2016 edition had the third-most number of centuries in IPL history – seven centuries. Among the seven tons, Virat Kohli scored four. He scored 973 runs, the highest individual tally in a season by any player in IPL history.

Kohli’s RCB teammate AB de Villiers had scored a century against the Gujarat Lions. Rising Pune Supergiants’ Steve Smith had also scored a century. It came against Gujarat Lions. Meanwhile, Quinton de Kock, playing for Delhi Daredevils, too scored a century.
